So this is where it all began for Slingsby and I, with the achingly beautiful and multi award winning The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy.

I was contacted by Andy Packer the director of Slingsby Theatre Company to create the artwork and image projections for the theatre production The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy. I was hooked from the moment I started reading the script by the brilliant Finegan Kruckemeyer, who I believe is the most talented Australian playwright working today.

Ever since then I’ve worked closely with Andy Packer to create all of Slingsby’s branding, which is truly one of the best jobs in the world.

Slingsby’s award winning inaugural production, The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy, premiered in the Adelaide Festival Centre in January 2008. It has since been performed 220 times in 40 venues in 25 cities on 5 continents. Seasons include Sydney Festival, Children First Festival in Singapore, Festival Teatralia in Madrid, Imaginate Festival in Edinburgh, The Egg at Theatre Royal Bath, Sydney Opera House, ASSITEJ 2008 World Congress and Performing Arts Festival in Adelaide, and a five-week tour of regional and metropolitan South Australia. In 2011 the production undertook a seven week tour of North America including two weeks ‘sold-out’ at The Duke Theater on 42nd Street, New York. Slingsby’s debut international tour, the 2009 world tour of The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy, won a Ruby Award for “Leadership in Arts Enterprise”.

A beautiful, dark and funny theatre show ideal for audiences aged 10+, families and theatregoers of all ages. Inside a magical travelling theatre tent, a storyteller shares an enchanting and timeless tale. Cheeseboy’s home planet has been reduced to a bubbling fondue. Where are his parents? How did he become marooned on Earth? A journey in turns wondrous and achingly familiar, with shades of Edward Scissorhands, Oedipus and The Little Prince.

The 2009 world tour of The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy won a Ruby Award, a South Australian arts and cultural award, for “Leadership in Arts Enterprise”.

The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy has received outstanding reviews around the world.
